    About this Presentation:

Are you tired of mowing, edging, herbiciding, and fertilizing plants that don’t make flowers, fruit, shade or habitat? Why do we grow so much grass? Maybe it's time to fire your fescue and say bye-bye to your bermuda. In this talk I’ll go over why folks are leaving behind turfgrass for alternatives that require less maintenance, fewer chemicals, or support local ecosystems. I’ll talk about different ways to make this a smooth transition. And I’ll spend plenty of time on ideas for planting beautiful, bountiful and sustainable landscapes. .

The presentation will be recorded for

members to view later in our Video Library.

    About Our Speaker:

As the Horticulture Extension Agent in Davidson County, Sam Boring works to provide research-based information on best management practices in the areas of consumer and commercial horticulture. In practice, this means providing educational programs, workshops, and consultations with fruit and vegetable farmers, landscapers, and home gardeners. This includes best practices for turf management, integrated pest management for insects and disease on farms and in home gardens, soil and fertility management, water conservation, and selecting and maintaining ornamental and landscape plantings. His recent interests include planting and spreading information about native fruit trees such as persimmon, serviceberry, and pawpaw.

    About this Presentation:

Many of us really enjoy cooking. During the course of our cooking explorations, many of us have discovered the increase in flavor cooking with herbs, fresh or dried, can give a dish. But fresh herbs are expensive and not always readily available, and some dried herbs may also be difficult to find. Join Susan Hawkins, Horticulture Extension Agent, to learn about growing and preserving your own culinary herbs. We will discuss cultural considerations and site preparation for herbs, growing considerations for specific herbs, and preserving herbs.

The presentation will be recorded for

members to view later in our Video Library.
