About:

In this presentation, you’ll learn what the keys for success have been in executing Master Gardener workdays, both small and large. We’ll cover planning, organizing, and executing workdays that get the job done and leave volunteers with a real sense of accomplishment. We’ll also look at some barriers to volunteering and how they might be overcome. And finally, you’ll leave with a template for how you can think about, anticipate problems, plan, and organize your workdays leading to success and appreciation for a job well done.

The presentation will be recorded for  Association

members to view later in our Video Library.

About our Speaker:

I am a volunteer in the Durham County Master GardenerSM program, where I serve as Team Leader for the Cocoa Cinnamon project. I have planned a number of both small and large workdays relating to this award-winning project. As a member of both the Plant Sale Committee and the Demonstration Garden team I’ve used planning and logistics to anticipate and execute for success. I also serves as a horticulture volunteer at Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

I hold advanced degrees in Health Care Education and Medical Laboratory Sciences, Most of my professional career was in health care, including the final two decades in private practice as a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. Upon retirement, I switched gears to gardening, receiving a Certificate in Home Horticulture from the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in 2014, and Master Gardener Certification in Durham County in 2015. I also owned a one-person gardening business in Durham called the Mini Gardener, LLC, focusing on gardens for small spaces. Being self-employed for 25 years, I learned how advance planning and organizing made it easier to meet my client’s goals, which transferred beautifully to planning workdays for volunteers.
