About this Presentation:
We'll explore how the permaculture movement, which started in the 1980s in Australia, contextualizes plants and gardening in a larger integrative approach to human settlements and ways of life, as well as a sense of social purpose and cultural healing, and how permaculture offers a design approach for creating abundance and ecological and human well-being in different biomes around the planet. I'll cover a few specific permaculture techniques, talk about my own life and ways that I work with gardening and permaculture, give examples from indigenous agricultural systems, and share some about my organization Cooperate WNC which is a regional scale approach to developing permaculture system in western NC.
The presentation will be recorded for
members to view later in our Video Library.
About Zev:
I grew up in a patch of kudzu in Sylva, NC, and I now live as a long-term member at Earthaven Ecovillage (outside of Asheville), where I cooperatively farm milpa, practice food as medicine, and play for a culture of remembrance, beauty, pleasure and healing. I worked as a permaculture educator and consultant for 12 years before a series of events led to my recognition of the collective power of mutual aid and cooperatives, and subsequently founding a regional mutual aid and cooperative living network called Cooperate WNC in 2019.
Founder and Director - Cooperate WNC, Regional Mutual Aid for a Regenerative Future
Member - Earthhaven Ecovillage, a growing village which is a living laboratory and educational seed bank for a sustainable human future.
