About:

Are you ready to start a community garden? It takes energy and many committed hands to grow a garden. Before the soil is turned or the first seed is planted, you must consider not only what the garden will produce, but how it will be accomplished. Using Community FRESH, a guide to growing communities, we will cover the 10 steps to start a successful garden.

The presentation will be recorded for state Association

members to view later in our Video Library.

About our Speaker:

Alyssa McKim works for Cooperative Extension at NC A&T State University. In her role as the State Coordinator for Community Food Programming, she supports organizations and county agents throughout the state of North Carolina with a focus on developing regenerative, place-based garden programs in low-resource communities. She does this by providing design consultation and technical training with a focus on community-based decision-making.

The primary program is the Community Garden Leadership Academy which provides community gardeners with leadership training.

Alyssa McKim holds a master's degree in Agriculture Education and is a certified Permaculture Educator. She is an avid gardener and loves to grow and share medicinal herbs and plants.

Her passion and dedication to education and equitable social systems have been a primary emphasis in her work with community food systems.
