About this Presentation:

In this talk, we will explore the field of therapeutic horticulture, its many healing and restorative benefits, and how gardening connects us to nature, ourselves, and each other. We’ll delve into how the North Carolina Botanical Garden integrates therapeutic horticulture into its programming to support diverse communities, highlighting the research-backed physical, mental, and emotional benefits of gardening. Attendees will also walk away with practical strategies and creative ideas to incorporate therapeutic horticulture techniques into their own gardening routines, fostering health and well-being in their daily lives.

    About Our Speaker: 

    Sarah Tanke smiling in a relaxed outdoor photoSarah Tanke is the Therapeutic Horticulture Community Engagement Specialist at the North Carolina Botanical Garden, where she connects people to the healing power of nature. With a degree in Psychology from the University of Florida and a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy, Sarah has worked in diverse settings, from mental health facilities to higher education. She is a registered Horticultural Therapist (HTR) and is passionate about creating inclusive, therapeutic gardening experiences that promote well-being and connection for all.
