Non-Members - $10 (non-refundable) - or you can join the state Association ($20/year membership fee), attend ALL of our presentations for free, AND have access to the recordings to view later
About:
Attendees will learn how the United States Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones came to be, what they mean and why they are still in use almost 100 years after the first hardiness maps were developed. The presentation will include a review of early colorful, hand drawn maps from the archives of the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University as well as the latest computer- generated maps from the USDA.
The presentation will be recorded for state Association
members to view later in our Video Library.
About our Speaker:
Tom Packer is a Master Gardener from Wake County and a two-time winner of the program’s Diamond in the Rough award. He was appointed to the North Carolina State Agricultural Foundation Board. Tom is President of the Gardeners of Wake County club and winner of its Green Thumb Award. He also is a moderator of the Facebook group Gardening Carolina, volunteers at the JC Raulston Arboretum and is President of the Rotary Club of Raleigh. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California.
